Meriden, CT has a long and storied history as a home for artists of many stripes. Our leadership in the silver industry attracted artists from around the world who helped create magnificent designs for tableware, lamps, and many other ornate and well-crafted items.
In the heart of the city's downtown you will find Gallery 53 right on Colony Street. It is the oldest arts and crafts association in Connecticut, offering studio and gallery space as well as classes since 1907! It is an important anchor in "The Artists Colony", a newly developed hub for the arts in and around Meriden. Meriden has also been home to renowned musical talents of many genres including
Rosa Ponselle (opera), Gary Burr (songwriting), Rob Hyman (rock),
Michael Lipman (classical), and Ben Homer (jazz).
Meriden’s resurgence has led to a new rising community of artists who are poised to make Meriden once again a noted hub for the arts.
